Hello Everyone!
I hope you all are doing wonderful and great. I’m back celebrating Black History Month with another post of book recommendations for you and your child. Are you ready? Let’s go!
I Promise by LeBron James
When he’s not scoring on the court, LeBron is a children’s book author. I bought this book last year and it’s become a favorite of Bear’s. It has a lot of good lessons for kids (as well as adults!) to apply to their lives. I highly recommend it!
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
Ezra is not a Black author, but he often wrote about Black and Latino characters in his books. One of my favorite books from childhood also became one of Bear’s favorite books. I love to read this book any time during the year, no matter what the weather is like outside.
Timelines from Black History by Penguin Random House
This is an excellent book to trace Black history from the very roots – like Early African Kingdoms and such. This is probably a bit more advanced for the younger readers, and I would recommend this book probably starting 2nd grade and older.
The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander
This is one of my favorite books of all time. This shares the resiliency of Black people from slavery to the Civil Rights Movement to Black Lives Matter. It celebrates heroes like Dinah Washington to Michael Jordan to Barack Obama. It’s a must-read for every Black household.
So, those are my recommendations for this Black History Month! What books are you reading to your child? Sound off in the comments!
